In Knutsford, the May Day activities will take place on Saturday 5th May and it’s one of the most spectacular celebrations in the UK, earning its “Royal” status after a visit from the Prince and Princess of Wales in the Nineteenth Century.
There is a fancy-dress pageant, where dozens of children in historical or legendary costumes dance with Morris dancers, a Jack-in-the-Green, Chinese dragons, musicians, town criers, officials and of course the May Queen and her Court Attendants in horse-drawn carriages.
An activity attached to Knutsford is “sanding” where the towns pavements are decorated with patterns and pictures of coloured sand for the day. Also, there is a Maypole which will be paraded through the streets and a coronation of the May Queen, where she wears a Replica of the Queen Elizabeth’s Crown and she even gets to keep the Crown.
After a busy day, why not come down to The Rose & Crown for a bite to eat and something to Drink.
